How the Matcher works
The Matcher compares your answers with what we know about each service: the age group it’s built for, the kind of relationships its members want, how matching works, what you can do for free, and whether it’s aimed at a particular group, such as professionals.
Each answer adds or removes points for each service, using simple fixed rules. For example, if you’re over 50 and want to meet people your own age, services built for over-50s score higher. If you’d rather not pay, services with more generous free plans score higher. The three services with the most points are shown as your results.
Commission plays no part. Whether we earn money from a service isn’t an input, and a service without an affiliate programme can appear in your results. We don’t show a percentage “compatibility score”, because that would suggest a precision the Matcher doesn’t have.
What the Matcher can’t tell you
It can’t tell you how many active members there are near you, or whether you’ll get on with the people you meet. We recommend creating free profiles on two or three services to see who’s active in your area before you pay for anything.
